The Indigent Widows and Single Women's Society of Philadelphia was founded in 1817 by Sarah Ralston, a Quaker. She organized this charitable organization for women of good "Christian" character. The name was eventually changed to the Ralston House when the organization admitted men. Correspondence, 1824-1862, account books, and other business papers.
