Dye, surveyor and draughtsman; Jesse Lightfoot, surveyor; Strickland Kneass, chief engineer and surveyor; George Sturges, recording clerk; and John F. Wolf, surveyor. The Department of Surveys was officially organized in 1863 under the aegis of the Board of Surveyors created in 1855 with Strickland Kneass as chief engineer and president.
