Description

Joseph Sill was born in England and immigrated to the United States at the age of eighteen. He was an artist by avocation, but worked as a businessman and merchant in Philadelphia. Diaries, 1831-1854, contain personal notes, detailed comments on books, plays, art, lectures, travel, religion, political leaders and issues of the period, United States Bank affairs, railroad and canal expansion.
