Scrapbook containing predominantly clipped book and periodical illustrations, including a number of vignettes engraved by W. E. Tucker after the work of Thomas Birch, showing European and American landscapes and landmarks, animal portraiture, and genre and Biblical scenes. Landscape and landmark views mainly depict the Eastern United States and Great Britain. Titles include Passaic Falls; Bandit’s Home; The Woodlands, near Philadelphia-Seat of J. Lisle Esq.; Philadelphia from the Elm Tree, Kensington; The Prison at Venice; Abbey Gate of St. Edmundsbury, Suffolk; The Little Irish Girl; The City of Pompeii; The Deluge; The Three Maries at the Tomb of Christ; The Residence of Samuel Breck Esq. on the Schuylkill; Barlborough Hall, Derbyshire; Church Street, St Paul’s Church & the Cemetery Gate of St. Augustine’s Monastery, Canterbury; The Happy Family; and Plate XV from a 1782 edition of Don Quixote. Several of the views contain persons on foot, images of estates or rural life, farm animals, and modes of transportation on land or sea. Animal portraitures depict birds, sheep, goats, cows, and a wolf. Scrapbook also contains early European landscape lithographs designed by J. Rothmuller and G. Englemann; a lithograph signed with the monogram JPL; illustrated title pages from Oliver Goldsmith’s "The Traveler" and William Shenstone’s "The School Mistress"; a portrait of Elizabeth Fry; cutouts depicting a tiger and a Moses-like figure; watercolor and gouache drawings of flowers, a butterfly and a ruins; a pressed feather; and three newspaper clippings referring to poets M. LaMartine, Lady Flora Hastings, and Felicia Hemans.

Allegorical cartoon concerning the Pennsylvania Constitution of 1776 ("Zion"). Satirizes current events, fads, and opponents of the controversial constitution, which established a unicameral legislation overseen by an unchecked Council of Censors. Depicts "Zion" as a fortification on a rock under the protection of troops flying a flag inscribed, "Franklin & Liberty." The fort is attacked by anti-constitutionalists including Robert Morris and his "Bankers Corps," Benjamin Rush, Thomas Paine and possibly Alexander Hamilton. Also includes caricatured local politicians, sprites, demons, beasts, and animals, including publisher Mathew Carey and possibly pubisher William Cobbett who comment on national banks, banknotes, medical practices, the interest in ballooning, and slanderous pamphleteering and newspaper accounts.

Description
An account of the resource
This collection is comprised of business records and correspondence of the Ridgway and Bishop families of New Jersey and Philadelphia. Primary individuals within the collection include Jacob Elwood Ridgway and his son-in-law John Israel Bishop, both of whom invested heavily in various mining companies, such as the Rio Del Monte Gold Mines Company, Restaurado Mining and Milling Company, California King Gold Mining Company, Montana Gold Dredging Company, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Gold Mining Company. These companies are represented to various degrees in the collection through account books, stock certificates, and other items. The collection also highlights John I. Bishop's Jersey cattle farm, "Ogston" in Columbus, New Jersey, through farm and financial ledgers. The farm ran from the early 1800s until the 1980s. Additionally, Bishop helped build Sparks Shot Tower. Still standing on Carpenter Street in Philadelphia, it was one of the nation's first shot towers. In the collection is a financial volume pertaining to the tower that was kept by Bishop. There are also some family records, such as a grouping of family Bibles, as well as a few published volumes, including New Jersey Genealogy, Contemporary American Biography, and Biographical Review: Burlington and Camden Counties.

The woman leans to her left and kicks her right leg up as she pulls up the bottom of the skirt of her dress. The edge of her underskirt is visible. She is attired in a yellow dress patterned with black dots, a white kerchief tied around her neck, a red and white striped underskirt, and black shoes. Forestry is visible in the background. C. Meyer Jr. was a New York based fertilizer manufacturer who operated in the late 19th century.
